About ETHNOGUESSR

EthnoGuessr: A Cultural Spin on Geography Games

EthnoGuessr is a geography-based guessing game inspired by the popular game GeoGuessr, but with a unique twist: instead of identifying real-world locations from street views, players are challenged to guess the ethnic, cultural, or regional origin of a scene, tradition, object, or person based on visual, linguistic, or cultural cues.

Core Gameplay

Players are shown an image or short video clip—this could include traditional clothing, food, festivals, architecture, music, or even snippets of spoken language or accents. Using their knowledge (or intuition), players must guess the ethnic group, cultural region, or country of origin associated with the content.

For example:

  • An image of a colorful festival might require guessing whether it’s Holi in India or Inti Raymi in Peru.

  • A clip of a traditional dance could prompt players to choose between Georgian, Thai, or Zulu origins.

  • A photo of a dish might ask whether it's from Lebanon, Morocco, or Armenia.

Game Modes

  1. Solo Mode: Test your knowledge across multiple rounds and see how accurately and quickly you can identify cultural origins.

  2. Multiplayer: Compete with friends or global players in real-time challenges.

  3. Daily EthnoChallenge: A curated cultural item or scene each day that all players attempt to guess, similar to Wordle.

  4. Theme Packs: Focused categories such as "Folk Costumes", "Musical Instruments", "Sacred Spaces", or "Diaspora Clues".
